About Gecko Gallery
Welcome to Gecko Gallery, located in the picturesque town of Broome in Western Australia. Founded in 2001 by local artist and entrepreneur Julia McDonald, our gallery has become a vibrant space for showcasing contemporary and traditional Indigenous art, as well as works from emerging artists across Australia.
Gecko Gallery is renowned for its diverse range of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and unique handmade crafts that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region. The gallery aims to support local artists and promote a deeper understanding of Indigenous storytelling through art. Our mission is to create a platform for artists to connect with collectors and art enthusiasts, fostering appreciation for Australian art.
The focus of Gecko Gallery lies in celebrating the unique narratives that each artwork brings. We represent artists such as Jandamarra Cadd, known for his captivating use of colors and themes derived from Indigenous culture, and Melissa Dorrington, whose intricate textiles tell stories of the land and its history.
Catering to art collectors, tourists, and the local community, Gecko Gallery strives to be an inclusive space that enriches the cultural fabric of Broome. We regularly host exhibitions, workshops, and events that encourage engagement with the arts and uplift the voices of the artists we represent. Additionally, our gallery provides a unique opportunity to purchase authentic Indigenous art, thereby contributing to the livelihoods of the artists.
As an interesting fact, Gecko Gallery promotes sustainable practices by sourcing materials locally and engaging in community projects that highlight environmental conservation. Our commitment to preserving the artistic heritage of the region makes us a beloved cornerstone of the Broome art scene.
