This artwork is part of the 2025 paintings which investigate human psychology and beaviours. “Great expectations” shows a woman in front of a mirror. She is looking at us, smiling, while her reflection looks straight at her. This is a representation of our ego, which is demanding and moral, we come face to face when we are in front of our image, looking at the mirror. Setting up a sketch for “Great expectations” was a long and interesting process: I went through and rejected many ideas and images before I chose the one which best suited my intentions. I painted this artwork with a classic, blended technique, using bright colours. The painting is full of light, despite the sense of anxiety which bring to the viewer.
