A geisha

This painting is based on the cover of a popular book which tells the story of a real geisha who lived and worked in Japan in the XXth century. I was touched by her story and decided to paint an artwork based on the concept “a geisha”. This artwork expresses both my willingness to create paintings based on ideas that fascinate me, and the development of my expressionist technique.

“A geisha” was made before “On a green island” and is my first medium-sized expressionist artwork. For the first time I had to extensively work on clotes and small details with a gestural technique. Also, I had to paint the face of the geisha using a mix of white strokes and colorfull details, to let her make-up stand out.
