About the artist
Sandra Herber
Toronto, Canada
Sandra Herber is an avid amateur photographer living in Toronto, Canada. She works as a librarian but spends all her vacation time, and disposable income, on photography and travel. She was born in South Africa, and has lived in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Malaysia. Her love of photography started in her teens when her mother gave her an old Pentax Spotmatic and her parents allowed her to set up a black and white darkroom in the basement where she developed film and printed a lot of pretty terrible pictures. She switched from film to digital in 2007 and is thrilled that her work has developed enough since those early days to have garnered awards in international competitions such as the Sony World Photography Awards, le Prix de la Photographie Paris, the Minimalist Photography Awards, and the International Photography Awards and to be featured in publications in print and online. In recent years she has been drawn almost exclusively to cold climates in Canada, the Arctic and Antarctic.
