Portrait of an old man

This face portrait is a fast, materic artwork which I made for the “Expressionist portraits series”. It is part of my evolution in expressionist painting and is the first of a second series of 30x40cm portraits which I have selected for practicing my new artistic mood.

In this painting you can see materic brush strokes given to shape the face and beard of the subject. The care I take in painting lights and shades is sometimes overcome by the necessity of using stripes of bold colors, which are more integrated in the skin-like texture, in this artwork.
