Marcus is an Anglo-Australian artist, known for his realist portraits, that blend the grandeur of traditional oil painting with the nuanced sensibilities of modern art. Currently exploring the limitless possibilities of colour, form, and emotion in abstract painting, Marcus's work invites a sensory journey into introspection and discovery. Educated in Sydney and at the New York Academy of Art, Marcus has dedicated his career to honing his skills, earning a reputation for excellence. His artistic accolades include the esteemed Dame Joan Sutherland Award in 2014 and a prestigious scholarship to the New York Academy of Art in 2015. He was also a three-time consecutive finalist in the prestigious Archibald Prize from 2011 to 2013. In 2015, Marcus's commitment to artistic excellence was recognized with the highly sought-after Black Swan Portrait Prize, (rebranded the Lester Prize), placing him among Australia's elite realist portrait artists. His international acclaim was further solidified by his selection as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center International Salon. In 2018, he won the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize.
