The provinces of Quảng Trị and Thừa Thiên were among the heaviest to be afflicted by extensive bombing and chemical sprayings, having catastrophic effects to the local landscape and ecology. While the landscape has remained scarred, it has constantly shifted in appearance at the hands of agriculture and industry. This persistent change has created a mask over the historical and once overt violence subjected upon the people of Vietnam. Furthermore, it is a longstanding example of human intervention and shows a clear connection between the action of man and its affects on nature; presenting the ‘cultural landscape’.
