Oil on linen 55x44x2cm (21.7x17.3x0.8in) 2019, ready to hang.
This artwork displays a canvas split in two different parts, each one representing a painting which has apparently nothing to do with the other.
I was thinking about rising a sense of misplacement in the observer when I set up this painting and managed to put two beautiful artworks one next to the other, physically inseparable. Then I picked up a photo of Sofia and chose a beautiful picture of a savoy cabbage and painted them on the same canvas. When I finished the artwork I felt as if I wanted to have them separate, but after a while I started considering them as a single artwork and I appreciated how the two images worked together. I then realised that I had to get over the common idea of ‘painting’ to fully appreciate the artwork and, eventually, decided to call it “Bi-painting”.
Sofia/A savoy cabbage is an oil on linen painted on first quality linen cloth, hand primed and painted using top quality colours. The artwork is signed on the front/back and comes with a unique certificate of authenticity.
