Statement about my work
I have a particular interest in repeating structures, schematic patterns and the dominance of monochrome color combinations. The random accumulation of tulip heads, grasses or fruits etc., discovered at markets and photographed there, offer me an aesthetic appeal, which in turn is the initial spark for the creation of an image or a series of images. On my painting path, I detach myself from the photographic motif by transferring the structures captured there onto the white canvas with a pencil, multiplying them and sharpening them. With this intention, I line up flowers, leaves, stems, fruits, but also technical motifs, such as cables and wires, on the canvas format.
The linear structure created on the canvas, which can appear round, convex, linear, horizontal or vertical, is then embedded by me in a painterly manner in a monochrome color field. On the primed canvas, work with small brushes, use oil paint and build up the plasticity of the motifs in multiple layers using a photorealistic working method. During the painting process I change my viewing distance to the picture up to 3m. The effect of the painting surface immediately in front of the picture is very painterly with a pasty application of paint. The further I move away from the picture, the more concrete, three-dimensional and photorealistic the effect of the depicted motif is. This multi-faceted viewing game with different levels of perception is my desired goal.
Another focus of my work is the decision for the dominance of one color, depending on the motif I choose. With the decision for the “Tomatoes” motif, the decision was made for the “Red” color field.
My focus here is on the energetic power of the color field. By elaborating the motif with nuances, i.e. with countless different shades of red, I achieve an energetically charged plasticity that charges the room. In the future, I intend to realize my image motifs on significantly larger image formats so that the viewer is even more captivated by the pull of the structure and color of my images.
