Fernando Braune was born in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, in 1957. He graduated in chemical engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and simultaneously attended several courses related to art history, art criticism and philosophy of art. In 1983, he backpacked for 40 days with his photography equipment, traveling throughout the interior of the Northeastern states, returning to Rio to open his first solo exhibition, “Aqui Brasil”, at the Centro de Arte in Nova Friburgo. In 1999, he was selected for the “Seleção do Portfólio Nacional da Fundação Nacional de Arte do Brasil”, where he participated in his first photographic installation, using materials such as threads, fabrics and organic materials worked with photographic images. In 2004, he was invited to act as curator of the event “Olhares Fotográficos” at the Usina Cultural in Nova Friburgo, which brought together renowned photographers and visual artists from all over the country for presentations, exhibitions, portfolio reviews and debates on visual arts. These events lasted until 2009.

Fernando's work has been published in several international art magazines and books and he continues his journey in the production of images, currently focusing on printing on cotton paper with direct interference in the images with pastel pencils and charcoal, which are monitored via computer, creating a universe parallel to the one we live in.
