I was interested in the red lobelia together with the water lilies. One day in August, I sat down at the pond with my easel, paints and canvas and painted enthusiastically. The dynamic textures of the plants are vividly emphasized by my impasto application of paint. The canvas is black and makes the colors particularly vibrant.
