- Painting runs as a common thread through my life. -
I discovered my enthusiasm for watercolors in my early twenties while studying art education. At the end of the 1990s I deepened my involvement with oil painting. I like to work in a very impasto manner with a decisive brush stroke. This gives the images a powerful expression. The three-dimensional application of paint creates a shadow that changes the images over the course of a day depending on the incidence of light.
- Plein Air Painting -
I like to be by the sea or in the garden, these are also my favorite places. Over the years I developed a method of working outdoors that allows me to finish large format canvases in one go. It manages to capture the mood of the day. This makes every picture special. The constantly changing weather conditions and the changing lighting conditions influence the painting process and the image creation, delaying it or speeding it up. I love these exciting challenges.
- Working in the studio -
The situation is different with the figure and macro studies: these works are created in my Flensburg studio. I first explore the subject with the camera and observe closely. Only then do I move on to painting. I paint macro studies, such as the feathers, for months. When I apply the layers of paint, I enjoy the plasticity of the shapes that develops. In contrast to the plein air pictures, the works created in this way capture a moment.
Elements such as clarity and liveliness, depth and breadth are expressed in my pictures. I have been exhibiting my pictures since the beginning of the 2000s and am pleased with the response.
