Victor Hagea uses the means of traditional painting, both stylistically and technically. Conceptually he goes partly in the direction of surrealism, but wants to separate himself from the “fog fields of a certain type of alienation of reality”. Hagea does not consider himself to be a trompe l'oeil "ist" as he only uses this type of illusionistic painting as one tool among many others.
Victor Hagea graduated from the Fine Arts High School in Târgu Mureș. He completed his academic education in painting at the Academy of Fine and Decorative Arts in Cluj.
In January 1985, Hagea moved to Germany and worked as a lecturer in design theory, techniques, drawing and illustration between 1991 and 2004. Between 2004 and 2014 he was a lecturer at the Academy of Fashion and Design in Munich.
